Episode 002 | Monique Marvez Shares How Every NO Is a Learning Opportunity

From a city known for it’s spontaneity, diversity, energy and STYLE, Monique Marvez emerged as one of Miami’s brightest and most provocative talents.

Twenty-five years ago, as her hometown experienced the beginning of a renaissance, she honed her unique skills in the coffee houses and cabarets of early South Beach. After the New Times named her “Best New Talent”, the rising comedian was invited to the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival and was launched into the national spotlight. She never looked back.

Her unique use of on-point humor, take-no-prisoners honesty, unflagging positivity and total authenticity create tailor-made, seemingly in the moment, electrifying performances that have kept her in constant demand.

Monique’s brand of equal parts AHA! and Ha! Ha! has drawn the attention of icons and influencers outside of stand up as well. She’s been asked to write for Disney, Dick Wolf Productions, collaborate with John Gray on an off Broadway production of Mars/Venus LIVE! and was the first featured non-African American on Jamie Foxx’s Foxxhole. This fortuitous event lead to Snoop Dogg requesting her specifically for his own comedy special: Snoop Dogg Presents the Bad Girls of Comedy, her second SHOWTIME special. The first was the Alma-nominated Latin Divas of Comedy. She openly admits she is no longer a girl and really not bad, more mischievous…

Monique currently writes, produces and delivers a weekly show on LA’s venerable KFI AM 640, and follows it up with her “3rd Hour” Podcast (everything she wants to say without FCC restrictions), also developing a TV pilot and tours with variations of her stand up and 1 Woman Show: Not Skinny; Not Blonde, also the title of her 1 Hour (and third!) SHOWTIME special available now on HULU.
