With new ideas cropping up at the blink of an eye, it probably comes as no surprise that sticking to the focus you have your business can be difficult.
This is something I struggled with, when it came to FITzee Foods. I had lots of different opportunities present themselves to me throughout the years of running that business, and many of them I said YES to, even if they didn’t perfectly align with my focus.
I was so focused on anything that would help me grow my top line revenue.
I was fortunate to get my fresh prepared meals into Scripps Hospital, which is a large chain of hospitals in Southern California.
Theoretically, it could have been a huge success for my business. A fantastic source of revenue, plus a possible referral source for other corporate settings.
But, in the end, it didn’t work out that way, the client was around for awhile, but eventually time passes and they decide to kick you to the curb, and then you are no better off than you were before taking on the corporate client.
I actually had a woman reach out to me, to ask some questions about her vegan food meal delivery. She, too, wanted to get into the corporate environment. She wanted to bring healthy, vegan meals to businesses around her.
I asked her one VERY important question, “Where are you making the most money in your business right now?”
Her response was not Corporate America, but instead, her direct to consumer online sales. Because of my experience around fresh prepared meals, I knew that she needed to spend 100% of her attention on that area. Nothing else!
I advised her that the second she decided to step into the corporate space, her online sales would drop because of her shift in focus. Not to mention, that it would eat up more of her time, which we all know is a HOT commodity.
I’m unsure of what she decided, but I felt good being able to use my mistakes to help guide someone else to success.
So, pick ONE thing that you do really really well and then focus on that! You’ll begin to see the drastic results you’re hoping for.
Get Your Whole Team On Board
When you have a mission and focus for your business, your entire team has to be on board. If not, it is very likely that what you create won’t be sustainable.
People will be working towards different goals then what you had envisioned, and the success that you crave will be nowhere to be seen.
Russ Ruffino, a guest on Success Unfiltered, had an incredible opportunity present itself to him. A big time marketer approached Russ about creating a phone sales team for him. They would split the revenue, which would have brought in around $700k a month.
To most of us, this sounds like a no brainer, OF COURSE you take the marketer up on this project, right?
Wrong. At least for Russ it wasn’t, as it would shift his focus.
Russ turned down this opportunity because he knew that if he split his focus, his original mission of helping his clients achieve success, would suffer.
I can tell you with certainty, that this was the right decision for Russ. His company is now making around $1.4 million per month.
Not only does Russ keep his focus on the mission, but he has his sales team there to check him if he starts coming up with ideas that won’t benefit Clients on Demand and their core business model.
Having the entire team focused in on ONE mission and ONE core business model, can literally make your business!
There are NO Challenges, Only Opportunities
Have you ever looked at a challenge and thought of it as an opportunity?
I’m going to guess that many of you have experienced challenges throughout your business journey. It happens, you lose a client, or even a prospect, and your pipeline has dried up.
Instead of looking at this as the end of the world, and wallowing in self-doubt and pity, consider looking at it as an opportunity.
Take a step back and really think about what happened. Maybe the client wasn’t really a good fit for you. Or, possibly the client you had already been working with was underpaying you.
Now, take those thoughts and think about all the opportunities that arise with them. You can find clients that love you and are willing to pay WHATEVER in order to work with you. Or, maybe you avoided working with a client that would have been a pain in the butt.
Taking the time to reframe your thoughts like that can really help you stop dwelling on a temporary, crappy situation. Your mindset will turn around, and you’ll be more energized to go out looking for new leads.
In Conclusion
As entrepreneurs we play a lot of different roles in our business, so we’re bound to have loads of ideas just coming in and out of our head all the time. But, leave those ideas alone, and keep your mind laser focused on your original mission and core business. I like to call it, the bread & butter!
If it seems tough in the beginning, stick with it or you can even write down your thoughts and keep a journal for the future.
Remember, true success comes from being zeroed in on your single mission, sticking to the core business that generates all of your revenue and not deviating from the path.
