How to Get Over the Fear of Failure: And Know It’s Going to Be Okay!

What goals or dreams do you have brewing in your subconscious that you’ve never allowed to come to the surface because you’re terrified of failure?

I willing to go out on a limb, and guess that there are quite a few of you who have brilliant ideas that you’ve never spoken out loud because of this fear.

But, have you ever considered this?

That anything worth doing, is going to involve a real chance of failure… AND, if you do fail, everything will still be okay?

… I’ll pause for a moment to let that sink in…

That’s deep, right?! With that in mind, it seems kind of silly to keep holding off on writing that book or starting your photography business, like this week’s guest on Success Unfiltered, Jasmine Star.

Guys, I speak from experience. I’m not just some figure-head speaking down to you, I’ve been in this exact situation, and I regret nothing.

When I was thinking of closing FITzee Foods, a little over a year ago, it was the biggest decision that I’d ever come up against.

I wondered constantly if closing FITzee Foods was the right decision, and if things would be okay after the fact. If I’d ever find my way back, considering my identity had been wrapped up in FITzee Foods for the last ten years of my life.

I knew I’d have to figure out a new path. Thankfully, that new path led me to create The Pitch Queen and my podcast, Success Unfiltered, but even if it hadn’t, everything STILL would have been okay. Things would have fallen into place.

We all have a purpose. We all have a reason we’re here on this planet. And, I 100% believe that everything happens for a reason. Focus your energy here, and give those dreams, stresses and ideas a voice. Because everything is going to be okay!

From Law School to Photography

Jasmine Star started out attending law school, but she believes that since we only have one crazy life we deserve to be happy through all of it. This led her to drop out of law school, and begin pursuing her passion of photography.

The next Christmas, Jasmine was gifted a camera, and immediately got to work practicing. She’d take photos of whatever she thought was beautiful. When she looked back at the photos she had taken, she quickly realized she had some learning to do.

At this point she could have quit photography and gone back to law school, but she knew that her passion was in taking pictures and she wasn’t willing to give that up.

She went to work teaching herself everything about becoming a photographer. She’d watch YouTube videos and google countless other things, so she could learn more.

After taking time to learn some of the tips and tricks of photography, Jasmine approached a couple in her father’s church who had recently gotten engaged.  She asked them if she could take their engagement photos… FOR FREE! They didn’t immediately say NO, but they never got back to her and gave her one of those indirect NO’s.

In her interview, Jasmine said, “I remember thinking, if I can’t succeed in the most primed arena (her father’s church) in my small life, how will I ever succeed anywhere?”

Once again, Jasmine could have given up, she could have allowed her fear of failure to take over, but she knew she had nothing else. For her, it was either pursue this or go back to law school, and since she knew she was miserable in law school and happy doing photography, she stuck it out.

When those are your only viable options, you are able to keep pushing forward, no matter what.

How to Overcome Objections

We all experience objections, some are massive failures, others are just another NO, but we all still need a way to overcome them.

Jasmine shared her favorite three ways to overcome objections in your life.

1.Do not let the predictability of success be dependent on anyone else.

If someone tells you NO, there WILL eventually be someone who will say YES, as long as you keep knocking on doors. You cannot stop! Just remind yourself that everything will be okay, no matter the outcome.

2. Work on thickening your skin.

In an interview, Matt Damon shared that when aspiring actors come to him ask for his best advice, the first thing he says is… QUIT.

He claims that anyone who listens to him and quits, that they were never intended to be an actor. If you quit after a single piece of advice, you were never meant to do the thing you’re out trying to do.

It is those who push through, beyond all of the hard work, that are meant to be doing it and who will succeed.

You need to remember that for the rest of your life, you’re going to keep hearing NO, NO, NO, and if you can’t handle it now, you won’t be able to handle it in five years.

Let that be a profound mind shift for you.

3. You are going to get a lot more NO’s than YES’s.

Don’t get too hung-up on the NO’s and you may as well get used to them. You’re going to hear them a lot, so just learn to take it in stride.

In Conclusion

If you’ve got a great idea brewing and the fear of failure is holding you back, allow yourself to step back and think.

Know that everything will be okay. Because when we stress and we have anxiety about things, it doesn’t do anyone any good.

I invite you to tell yourself, “It’s going to be okay.” As a new mantra you can put on repeat in your head.
