How to Know When You Uncover Your True Passion

How do you know when you uncover your true passion?

If you’re reading this, then I’m going to assume you’re either an entrepreneur, business owner  or in some type of sales.

Great! Welcome! Glad to have you! 🙂

But, what I want to know is, are you really and truly passionate about what you’re doing everyday? Do you even know how to tell?

Being passionate about what you do for a living is a crucial ingredient to success in whatever you do. It doesn’t matter if people pay you to set-up their Netflix, or if you sell tax assistance, if you’re not passionate about what you do, you’re not going to experience true success.

For me personally, when I was in real estate or when FITzee Foods was open, I was successful, but I struggled at times to keep my head in the game. I got my FITzee Foods products into places like Costco and The Vitamin Shoppe and I had an incredible success rate when it came to real estate, but I didn’t have experience with food prep, and I didn’t love real estate. I actually had no background in food and didn’t like food. I loved the mission and how I could help people change their lives one meal at a time with food. What I learned was that you must be passionate and inspired of all aspects in your business. And for me 50% of it was extremely challenging.

Where I DID excel, was when it came to the sales portion of both businesses. Getting to connect with people, being able to serve people with the offerings I had created is what got me excited!

And, I was DAMN good at that!

Which is why when I closed FITzee Foods in March of 2017, it became very clear that my true passion would come from being a sales strategist and teaching others how to do what came so easily to me.

Hence, The Pitch Queen brand was born.

Middle of the Night Excitement

Are you curious whether you’ve ever found your true passion? I have a simple way to tell…

Do you wake up in the middle of the night excited about the ideas, products or services that you offer (or are planning to offer) to your clients?

When you love what you do SO much that it keeps you up at night, you’ve likely found something that lights you up and keeps you lit.

Another way to tell, is that if you’re willing to work 7 days a week for 12, 14 or 16 hour days and not bat an eye. It’s very clear that you love what you do. It doesn’t ever feel like a chore!

A great example, I’ve been wanting Dave Ellis as a guest on Success Unfiltered, but it’s tough to get on his schedule. He texted me one morning and said he was in San Diego and had time to meet up. So, I dropped everything else I had planned, grabbed my mics and set up a time with him to do our interview in person.

I didn’t care what else was happening, I was stoked to get the chance to interview Dave for my podcast. I knew he had so many golden nuggets to share and I was willing to rearrange my whole day for him.

So, ask yourself… What can you envision yourself doing 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and not minding it one bit? Then, do that!

I know someone will say that it’s just not that easy, but it really is. We all have responsibilities and priorities, it’s a matter of making sure yours align with your passions.

If you’re willing to take a risk, leave your cushy corporate job where you’re horribly unhappy, and start a business that you’re in love with, you’ll find success. Simply because you won’t mind putting in the work needed to grow.

Studying the Past

I love to learn about sales. I read books, listen to podcasts and watch YouTube videos all about sales, failure and comebacks. When I’m not working, I spend my lifetime sitting and learning all that I can so that I can then impart that wisdom on others.

If you find yourself trying to learn more about a topic that interests you, or you spend more time reading or listening to content from that arena, you can probably safely assume that you are passionate about that topic.

My guest, Dave Ellis, is a registered dietitian and has been working in the professional sports field for 35 years! No question that he loves what he does. Another indicator he shared in his episode was that he always had a genuine curiosity for how the science worked when it comes to fueling athletes.

He didn’t just have a vague interest, he spent time digging and clawing to find whatever information he could for sports nutrition, during his own down time, it didn’t matter. He loved learning more and new information.

Nothing Can Hold You Back

Leading up to when I closed FITzee Foods, I had some major setbacks. I had filmed a spot on Shark Tank, and was informed that it would never air.

I had submitted information to Marcus Lemonis and his show The Profit, and was turned down.

And, an investor I had been hoping would invest, decided that it wasn’t the right time for him.

This all led up to me closing FITzee Foods. But, I didn’t let it get me down, I knew I had more to give and just needed time to process and then rebuild. After a restful vacation to Hawaii, I came back super-charged and ready to build The Pitch Queen brand and my podcast, Success Unfiltered.

There was literally NOTHING that would have kept me from fulfilling this goal!

Dave, too, had his fair share of setbacks. He went to several meetings with professional sports teams and the people in charge just weren’t ready to hear what he could bring to their team, so they’d turn him down. Then, two or so years down the road, he’d hear from them again, offering him a position.

Trust me, if you love what you do and your true passion for it runs deep, there is NO stopping you!

In Conclusion

If you don’t love what you’re doing, then I don’t think you’re ever going to be able to sell and serve the people at the level that you want to. It’s worth it to uncover your true passion!

I encourage you to take the time to really feel out whether you’re passionate about your work. If not, what steps can you take to start moving you in the direction of your passions?
